Background

With more than 27 years of experience in public administration (14 years in government, eight years consulting and five more with a social media software company with solutions for government-citizen engagement), I consider myself part of the rare breed of professionals I refer to as “Gov 2.0ld” – those of us experienced in public affairs and civic engagement before and after the Internet and now in Web 2.0, social media and e-Government.

However, that history has enabled me to offer a unique skill set to organizations: knowledge, experience and expertise that combines traditional practices of public affairs and civic engagement leveraged with emerging collaborative technologies applied to governance and democratic processes.

A major transformation is underway in business and in government.  It’s like being part of an orchestral production that’s being written and performed simultaneously. Many players, instruments, and parts are being brought together in a coherent (and hopefully pleasant) manner. It’s the convergence of the Internet, social networking, politics, governance and citizen engagement providing new opportunities and the challenge of a lifetime.

The Opportunity: to reestablish a splintered relationship between citizens and government and building a new progressive structure for civic engagement and responsive governance.  For non-profits and business: to elevate and advance your level of service and communication with constituents and customers.

The Challenge: to harness and share knowledge and data that flattens information “silos” resulting in more informed decision making, reduced government inefficiency, costs, and public apathy.

I counsel and work closely with public and private organizations and stakeholders to help them capture and utilize the value of their networks -citizens, consumers and employees- and to grow and profit from those relationships in rapidly changing environments.

Born and raised in the Commonwealth of Kentucky –Louisville, or “Loo-uh-vuhl, as it is called, I now call Southwest Florida home.  My passion is government, civics, politics, and collaboration and how they can be improved and how they can be productive.
